Maree McCrum’s newest collection marks an exciting evolution in her practice, bringing together her Riverina roots with her recent time spent by the coast. Known for her playful mixed media works that transform everyday moments into layered contemporary compositions, Maree now turns her gaze outward—from the stillness of the inland to the vibrant pulse of Sydney’s beaches.

This new series, created exclusively for the Sydney Affordable Art Fair, captures the essence of iconic locations such as Bronte and La Perouse. Maree’s canvases are alive with movement and colour: the curve of a wave, the shimmer of light on water, the sweep of sandy headlands. Through bold textures, rich layering, and unexpected bursts of colour, she recreates the sensory experience of being seaside—salt air, ocean spray, and sun-warmed stone.

The shift from her Riverina-inspired works to these coastal landscapes underscores Maree’s versatility as an artist. Where the Riverina offered her quiet reflection and memory, Sydney’s coastline has introduced rhythm, vibrancy, and a new sense of expansiveness. Yet at the heart of her work remains her signature style: joyful, layered, and infused with curiosity.
