Debbie Wood, a proud Gomeroi artist working on Wiradjuri Country, brings a deeply personal and contemporary collection of works to the Sydney Affordable Art Fair. Known for her handwoven raffia jewellery and striking feather artworks, Debbie draws on her heritage and connection to Country to create pieces that are both cultural and contemporary.
For this year’s Affordable Art Fair, Debbie presents her Wildflower Series—intricate works that showcase the natural beauty of ethically sourced feathers. Each piece begins with careful selection, followed by the delicate weaving, arrangement, and preservation of feathers encased in high-quality perspex or glass. The result is a striking body of work that captures the texture, movement, and spirit of native Australian birds while ensuring their fragility is honoured and protected.
These artworks are more than decorative—they carry story, memory, and a strong link to Debbie’s cultural identity. The feathers, often seen as symbols of freedom, resilience, and connection to nature, are elevated into contemporary art objects that hold both strength and delicacy.
Created exclusively for the Affordable Art Fair, this collection represents Debbie’s ongoing journey of storytelling through natural fibres and found materials. Each work is original and previously unseen, offering collectors a rare opportunity to own a piece that bridges tradition and modern expression.
Debbie’s art is a celebration of culture, Country, and craft, infused with her characteristic warmth and authenticity. Her presence at the Affordable Art Fair shines a spotlight on the incredible talent of First Nations artists in the Riverina and their role in shaping Australia’s contemporary art landscape.
All of Debbie Wood’s glass and perspex encased feather artworks are one-of-a-kind originals, created with care and precision to preserve the natural beauty of each feather. The feathers used are ethically sourced, then intricately handwoven or arranged, and finally encased in either museum-grade glass or high-quality perspex to ensure both protection and longevity.
While viewing at the Affordable Art Fair, framing options can be arranged directly at our stand through Fantastic Framing, allowing you to customise your piece to perfectly suit your space. Shipping can also be arranged, with each work securely packaged to ensure safe delivery.
Because of the delicate nature of the feathers and their encasement, these artworks should always be handled with care:
Avoid placing in direct sunlight, as this may cause fading of natural feather colours.
Clean only with a soft, dry cloth—do not use glass cleaners or solvents on perspex surfaces.
Display in a stable, low-humidity environment to best preserve the integrity of the materials.
Each artwork is exclusive to this collection and has never been shown before. By purchasing, you are directly supporting Debbie Wood, a Gomeroi artist working on Wiradjuri Country, whose practice deeply reflects her heritage and connection to the land.
