About the artist
Rebecca Gornall is an Australian contemporary artist based in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales. Growing up on a sheep and cropping property near Old Junee and Marrar gave Rebecca a deep and lasting connection to the landscapes, changing seasons and farming communities of the Riverina.
Rebecca creates colourful, contemporary interpretations of rural Australia. Her paintings are recognised for their bold palettes, expressive mark-making and simplified landscape forms. Trees, paddocks, waterways, farms and wide country horizons are transformed through unexpected colour combinations, creating scenes that feel familiar while offering a fresh way of seeing the landscape.
Rather than reproducing every physical detail, Rebecca captures the feeling and memory of a place. Colour is used instinctively to communicate light, weather, season and emotion, allowing brilliant pinks, greens, blues and earthy tones to sit confidently alongside one another.
Home is an important theme throughout Rebecca’s work. She is frequently commissioned to paint family farms, meaningful properties and places that hold special memories for their owners. These works become deeply personal records of belonging, family history and connection to the land.
Rebecca is also a primary school art teacher and a mother of three. Her understanding of creativity, storytelling and the importance of encouraging individual expression flows through both her teaching and her own artistic practice.
Through her paintings, Rebecca celebrates the beauty of rural New South Wales and the places that quietly become part of who we are.
